It should come as no great surprise to anyone, especially anyone that has an iPhone or Macbook, that China is now producing some seriously high quality products. Of course, Chinese factories still churn out plenty of junk too. What is surprising about the latest data is that low value added manufacturing is NOT necessarily migrating out of China to lower cost countries like Vietnam, India, and Bangladesh. Over the past few years, that has been the conventional wisdom but the data tells a different story. For example, China's share of global clothing exports continues to rise; it is not in decline.
